Overview

Electric motors consume a large share of the world's electricity, and moving them from fixed speed to variable speed is one of the most effective ways to save energy. That shift depends on affordable, precise drives, and Texas Instruments supplies the components that make them practical: C2000 real-time microcontrollers for control, power ICs for the rails and data converters for feedback. BeiLuo supplies these parts as an authorized Texas Instruments distributor with FAE support for control and power design.

The C2000 Control Advantage

A motor drive needs a controller that can close a current loop at high frequency, generate precise PWM and run the application at the same time. The C2000 family is designed for exactly this. The TMS320F280049C provides a 32-bit floating-point core at 100 MHz with high-resolution PWM channels, fast ADCs and control-oriented timers, so the field-oriented control algorithm runs with real-number math and hardware-timed loops. Because the control loops and the PWM are hardware-timed, the device keeps its timing even when the processor is busy, which is what a motor drive requires.

Field-Oriented Control

Field-oriented control delivers the efficiency and quiet operation that variable-speed drives need. It requires fast, accurate phase-current measurement and a controller that can run the transform and control loops at the PWM rate. The C2000's ADCs and PWM are designed for this pattern, and TI's motor-control software covers the algorithm, so the control laws do not have to be written from scratch.

The Power Stage

The power stage converts the DC bus into the three-phase AC that drives the motor. The gate driver and the power devices are chosen for the bus voltage and the switching frequency, and the control rail that powers the C2000 and the gate drivers is generated by a step-down converter such as the TPS54331. Because the switching stage generates noise, the control and analog rails must be kept clean, which is where an ultra-low-noise LDO such as the TPS7A4700 earns its place.

Current Sensing

Field-oriented control depends on accurate phase-current measurement. The sense signal is conditioned by an amplifier and digitized by the C2000's ADC, and the layout of the sense path relative to the switching stage decides the measurement quality. Keep the sense path short and away from the power loop.

Thermal and Layout

A motor drive dissipates meaningful power in the power stage and the control rail, so the thermal design matters as much as the electrical one. The switching loop must be small to limit EMI, the ground return must be solid, and the power devices must have a good thermal path. BeiLuo's FAE team supports thermal and layout review during design-in.

Why BeiLuo

We hold mainstream C2000, power and converter parts in regional stock and ship them with import, origin and RoHS documentation. Our engineers support MCU selection, control firmware, gate drive and thermal design from concept through production, and we can supply samples for bench validation.
